Island Wheelers CC King of the Hills 2008

 

The Island Wheelers Cycling Club King of the Hill 5 Mile time trial was held this year as part of our “Celebrating Cycling Year” which commemorates the achievements of local cyclists, including Seamus Devlin who won a stage in the Rás Tailteann, 50 years ago in 1958.

The event took place on Tuesday evening 17th June on the demanding Donaghmore to Altmór course. Despite fairly strong head winds and side winds, a total of 18 riders made some very respectable times were achieved, as follows:- with Gerard Scott being crowned the Island Wheeler King of the Hill 2008;

Super 6 TT League Round 1 Results

Island Wheelers and East Tyrone ran the first round of their popular Super 6 TT League last night (Tues.29th April) on the Woodgreen course.

 

Emyvale's Paul Brady was strongest on the night in conditions which although dry were not ideal. Brady recorded a time of 21.38 from Thomas Martin (Clann Eireann/Linen Green) with a 21.49. Gordon Scott (East Antrim)lifted the honnours as First Vet while Jonny Cole (Team Madigan) and Heather Wilson (Maryland Wheelers) were first in the Junior and Women's categories. Club Championship - Round 2 - Road Race

The 2nd Round and first Road Race of the Club Championship, took place on the Argory Circuit,

to-night (Tuesday 22nd April 2008) in dry, chilly conditions. 

The 19 Starters were sent off in 3 Groups with 4 mins separating the first group to the scratchmen,

who included 4 very welcome competitors from the Harps C.C.

The Race ‘came together’ at the end of Lap 3 with Robert Graham breaking away on his own going into

Lap 4 with a 15 second advantage, the gap widened over the final two Laps with Robert ‘soloing’ to victory

finishing with his advantage at 1min 3 secs. Special mention must go to the performances of Paddy Mc Nally

and Gerard Scott who ‘stuck in’ with the scratchmen to the finish.

Island Wheelers C.C. Club Championship Round 1 Result.

Round 1 of the Club Championship took place Sunday 6th APRIL 2008: – a 5 mile TT on the

Dgn- Cookstown Rd. The Event was held into a strong head/crosswind with the

odd hail/snow shower just to remind everybody that the clocks changing last week

did not necessarily mean summer was here. Ten intrepid souls took the Start Line the

results were as follows:-

Club Racing Events inc. Club Championship 2008

The 2008 Club Racing Events inc. the Club Championship commence on Sunday 6th April

at 10.00 a.m. with Event 1 a 5 mile straight Time –Trial on the Dungannon – Cookstown Road.

 The Events are open to riders from other Clubs but the Club Championship is open to

 Club members only and will follow the same format as 2007,

 there are 7 Events (3 x Time Trials, 3 x Road Races & 1 x Mountain Time Trial).

Each competitors best 5 results of the 7 Events to count for the overall Club Champion.

 Points will awarded by finishing position in each Event….

 1st  = 10 pts

2nd =   9 pts

3rd =    8 pts

4th =    7 pts

5th =    6 pts

6th =    5 pts

7th =    4 pts

8th =    3 pts

9th =    2 pts

10th and every finisher = 1 pt.

 The standings will be updated and published prior to each Event.

 Gerry Mc Veigh’s stated objective is to retain the Title he won in 2007, however opposition will

come from every angle in every Event!
